Expensive New Roof? You Have Options!

Breianna Dahl • Mar 12, 2021
When major roof problems arise, people tend to think of the worst-case scenario they need to purchase an expensive new roof. There are many reasons why someone can’t afford a new roof, and it doesn’t change that something needs to happen. The good news for people that find themselves in this place is that they have options!

1.Focus on Repairs

An option that's overlooked is repairing and sometimes repairs can buy enough time until they can afford to pay for a new roof. By asking “what is the least that we can do to fix the problem?” home and business owners can buy themselves a little bit of time while they save up or make a plan to pay for a new roof. The bottom line of repairs is that repairs are not long-term fixes. Eventually, a roof that needs to be replaced will no longer be repairable.

2. Look into Restoration

With the advancement of technology came the ability to come up with solutions that allow for the life of a roof to be extended through a process called restoration. Just like how furniture can be reupholstered, and old cars can be fixed up, some roofing companies now offer a service called restoration. Restoration is where an existing roof gets repaired and then covered in a coating that will extend the life of the roof for another 10, 15, or even 30 years. Again, restoration isn’t always a long-term solution, but it does give the person enough time to come up with a plan so that in the future they can afford a new roof.

3. Loans

As with most things in life that are expensive, loans are an option. Loans can be found by going to a trusted bank, shopping around at other banks, or sometimes the company doing the work with will offer finance plans as well. When it comes to using financing, it is always a good choice to have a few options to choose from, while also talking with a financial advisor about what the loan will do in the long run.

4. Payment Plans

One last option that is possible is that the company doing the work will have a payment plan. This option isn’t always available and will take a discussion with the company to see if it is something they can offer. Payment plans usually happen where a certain amount of money is put down at the beginning, and the rest of the money is due in intervals until the roof project is done. A payment plan can be a good option for people who are waiting for a loan to get approved or have the money but need to wait for a few more paychecks.

No matter what getting a new roof looks like, know that there are options. If you don’t know where to start when figuring out how to pay for a new roof, have an honest conversation about it with a trusted roofing contractor. They will likely have options or suggestions on how to make the work happen. I know that having discussions about finances can be difficult, but by being honest with your contractor you give yourself and the company you choose the opportunity to come up with a solution that works for both of you.
