So, You Need A New Roof

Breianna Dahl • Mar 25, 2021
As a company, we tend to preach about repair, maintenance, and restoration. We believe that every roof should be used to the fullest extent possible which will save time, money, and the environment, but sometimes a roof cannot be saved.
Roof replacement is an intensive process that leaves a building vulnerable, but when a roof is at the end of its life, roof replacement is necessary. Leaving a roof that needs to be replaced on a home or building means that the roof will not protect the home building as it should, and in many cases can cause more damage than having the roof replaced.

If you find that you need a roof replacement, there are aspects of the process you should think about before moving ahead with the process.

1) Do you Trust your Contractor?

Having a good relationship with the person or company performing the work makes a huge difference in the process. Check out this post, to see how to evaluate a contractor. Do not hesitate to ask the contractor questions about their experience level and history. Also, take a look at how well they listen to you as a customer. If you have any doubts about them, get a second or third opinion. Working with someone you trust is integral to how the rest of the work goes.

2) Do your Research

The beauty of the internet is that you can find out almost anything you want to know. After talking with your contractor, or even before, do your research as to what materials best for your roof. When the contractor meets with you about the project you will have a better idea as to what they are talking about and can make the best decision for your roof. Going with the cheapest option is not always a good idea. By doing research you will be able to make a more knowledgeable decision.

3) Read the Warranty and Ask Questions

Roofing work usually comes with some form of warranty. You must read through the warranty and ask the contractor questions if you don’t understand something. With warranties, there can be requirements that if not meant will void your warranty. For the warranty to work as intended take the time to make sure you understand the warranty. Ask your contractor as many questions as you need.

4) Make a Maintenance Plan

Just because you got your roof replaced doesn’t mean that the work is done. Roofs a huge asset that should be taken care of and protected. Work with your contractor to create a maintenance plan so that your new roof can last as long as possible.

Roofs are expensive but necessary. Having to spend money on a roof replacement can be painful, but it doesn’t have to be. By following the steps above you can be in control of the situation and breathe easy knowing that you trust the people doing the work.
