Love Letter To Your Roof

Breianna Dahl • Feb 11, 2021
Dear Roof,

I should start by saying sorry. Sorry for neglecting your needs all this time. I guess it’s true when they say that you never know what you had until it's gone. Now that your health is gone it is clear to me that I didn’t take care of you as I should have. Can you forgive me?

With every passing moment, I look back on all the good times we had. You were there when I found out the best news of my life, and when I was at my lowest point. You weathered every storm with me and kept me warm when it got cold. Out of all the things in my life, you have been constant and I realize that I haven’t thanked you for all that you do.

So, thank you.

Thank you for all the moments you kept me warm and dry. For the moments that I didn’t think were important, but would have been ruined without you there. Thank you for keeping the outside elements out and keeping the inside a perfect temp. Thank you for being there for me even when I ignored you.

From this moment on I promise to take better care of you.

I promise to check in on you and patch up the parts of you that are falling apart. Like you have protected me every day, I promise to become your protector. Making sure that you are healthy, happy, and taken care of no matter what. When the storms of life come beating on you with their raging winds, and icy fingers, I promise to be by your side. I will check in on you, take care of you, and support the parts of you that you cannot support alone.

I love you, and I promise to do better.
