1. Inspect and Clean your Gutters
Gutters are one of the top areas where debris likes to collect. Come Spring you may find that your gutters are full of things that shouldn’t be in there. That’s why spring is a great time to take a moment to clean out your gutters for the upcoming year. While you are cleaning your gutters out, take some time to notice if there are any problems with your gutters and if they require any repairs. By doing this once to twice a year, you can make sure that your gutters are in working order, and in the best shape possible.
2. Remove Debris from the Roof
Gutters are not the only place where debris will collect. If your roof has acquired some decorations that were not there, to begin with, take some time to get that off your roof. Debris likes to collect in the valleys or any low-lying area on a roof. Debris has the potential to cause problems in the future, so by getting it off the roof you are saving your shingles or roofing membrane from future damage.
3. Check for Interior Damage
Spring is a time when roof problems make themselves known. With the thaw, roofing problems can pop up unexpectedly. Even if the thaw doesn’t cause leaks, doesn’t mean that winter didn’t cause damage. Check your ceilings and attics for signs of damage. In the attic is possible to find holes or signs of leaks.
4. Trim Overhanging Branches
While not directly correlated with your roof, by trimming tree branches that hang over your roof, you are being proactive. Overhanging branches pose a danger to your roof once a big storm comes through. If you have overhanging branches that fall on your roof, you are now facing possible shingle damage, holes, or even worse. By taking some time to trim the branches you take away the possibility of them harming your roof in the future.
5. Schedule an Inspection
When all is said and done, no one is better at checking in on your roof than a professional. They have the training and expertise to make sure that little, or imperceptible issues can be addressed before becoming a bigger, and more expensive issue in the future.
