The clock struck midnight on January 1st, and across the world, people rang in 2020 with family and friends. This year was supposed to be great. There were weddings, graduations, new babies, and plenty of other events that people were looking forward to. I don’t have to be the one to tell you that the last eleven months hasn’t been what the world was expecting. Instead, 2020 greeted us with canceled events, social distancing, mask mandates, and closed businesses.
If you sit down and think about it, there is plenty to be upset about. I personally could be upset about my senior year of college getting messed up, or having to re-configure my wedding last minute. Some of our other employees could be upset about not being able to see loved ones, having to cancel vacations or the changes in how our company runs.
Instead of focusing on the negatives, it’s time we focus on the positives.
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s the perfect time of year to think about all we have to be thankful for this year. Looking on the positive side of this unpredictable year I know that while there is so much we can dislike, there are always positives.
The Company
This year, even while faced with social distancing and many businesses having to close, Roof Medics was able to stay open and busier than ever. The company got to the point where we not only had work to do, but we were able to hire more employees and get more equipment. We are thankful for all of our employees, who put their heart and soul into what they are doing. This company wouldn’t be what it is without all their hard work each and every day. We are also thankful for all of the supportive manufacturers we work with. Without them, we would not be able to grow and learn about roofing techniques.
Finally, we are thankful to our customers. Without you, we would not be the company we are. We appreciate you trusting us with your roofs, and the lasting relationships we have created with you.
Our Employees
This year affected everyone’s way of living. There were places you could no longer go, people, you could no longer see, and events that you were looking forward to that got canceled. Even with the changes, our employees were still able to find ways to work about the changes and be thankful for all that they have in their life.
Personally, I am thankful for the opportunity that I had to still have college graduation. I am thankful that even with the changes that had to be made, I was able to get married on June 26th like I had been planning for the last two years. Even with many businesses closed, I was able to get hired for a job that uses my college degree. I am thankful for every day that I have this job because it helps me to support my husband while he finishes his last year of college. When it comes to working, I am thankful for the opportunity that I had to become a licensed drone operator.
One of our work guys said he is thankful for his family and that he has a job that allows him to support them. He is thankful for his family's well-being, and that he has a roof over his head. Another one of our employees says she is thankful for having a job that allows her to stay home with her daughter. Even though it isn’t always easy working with a toddler, she is thankful that during this time she doesn’t have to figure out how to take care of her daughter while also working. Another one of our guys said that he is thankful for his family and the opportunity he has to provide for them. He is thankful for his friends and for the privilege of living in such a great nation. When asking the owner of Roof Medics, he said he is thankful for his family which includes his wife, four beautiful children, and their spouses, and six amazing grandchildren. He is thankful for all of the employees and customers of Roof Medics, and that the company was able to continue operations in spite of Covid-19.
You
So what are you thankful for this year? Even if this year threw you for a loop doesn’t mean that there aren’t things to be thankful for. Think about the little things that you were able to accomplish or the relationships you were able to grow over the last 11 months. Maybe you were able to work on a project that you’ve been putting off for a “rainy day” or you finally had time to read the book that’s been sitting on your shelf for the last 2 years.
None of us asked for 2020 to be the way that it is, but here we are. Take this time and think about what you are grateful and thankful for this year, and you might just realize how blessed you truly are.
