New Year, New Goals

Breianna Dahl • Jan 07, 2021
It was only a week ago that around the world people rang in 2021 and said goodbye to 2020. This means that many people have already decided on their new year's resolutions for 2021. Now I don’t know about you, but I have a love-hate relationship with new year's resolutions.  On the one hand, I believe that having goals is great. Planning and working toward something gives purpose to your daily life. On the other hand, I’ve set resolutions before and failed by January 2nd. Sound familiar to anyone else?

What I learned from the company goals set last year is that in the end, reaching them isn’t really the goal. The goal is trying our hardest to further the company in a positive direction. I also learned that just because we set goals at the beginning of the year, doesn’t mean that new goals won’t pop up unexpectedly throughout the year. That is truly the beauty of goals, they aren’t bound to only being made at the beginning of the year. For example, this blog was a goal that came about halfway through last year, and it took 3 months to accomplish. With that being said, a goal we have this year is to share our goals and progress throughout the year.

So here it goes!

I must begin by clarifying that there are two groups of goals that I will be listing. There are the goals that the owner of the company has come up with for the year, and then there are the marketing goals that I have come up with.
All of them are company goals, the difference is important to note though since it is likely that when I start updating everyone on where our goals are at during the year, it is likely the marketing goals will be discussed more. To begin I will list out the goals the owner has come up with for this year.

  • Have a minimum of 1 Full-Time Service Crew
If you had the opportunity to read one of our more recent blog posts Winter Worries you are already aware that the winter months are difficult for our company. If you haven’t read it yet, feel free to go check it out. The short version is that with our company being based in a northern state, once winter hits, work comes to a halt until warmer weather arrives in spring. Without our Oklahoma branch fully up and running we aren’t quite in a place where we have a full-time crew working year-round. For this year, finally being able to keep more employees working year-round is important.
  • Finish a minimum of 12 Restoration Jobs

Last year our company had a goal of completing 10 restoration jobs totaling 100,000 square feet of restoration. This year we would like to up that goal to a minimum of 12 restoration jobs or 120,000 square feet. Now to further explain this is not to say that we need 12 jobs at exactly 10,000 square feet per job. This can mean that we could get 10 jobs at higher square footage, or 15 jobs with less square footage but in total equaling 120,000 square feet or more.

  • Complete the implementation of our Roof Management Software

The last overarching goal for this year is to fully implement or roof management software. As a little background information, we have been slowly implementing this software over the last couple of years. This has allowed us to focus on making sure that each aspect is meeting our expectations. Technology is hard which is why we took a slower approach to make sure that we were not overwhelming ourselves with the technology itself, and the problems that arise anytime something new is introduced. We have finally made it to a point where we are ready to finish implementing the software into our everyday work and are working to have the software fully in place by the end of this year.

Now onto the marketing specific goals.
.
  • Social Media Numbers

This past year was huge for our company in terms of marketing since we went from having no presence on social media to creating profiles on Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and YouTube. I have to admit, I am proud of where our social media platforms are considering that they are so new. For this year, my hope is to grow each of the accounts by more than double what they are right now. The accounts are as follows:

  • Facebook: Currently 142 followers, would like it to get 500+ followers
  • Instagram: Currently 141 followers, would like it to get 500+ followers
  • LinkedIn: Currently 525 followers, would like it to get 1,000+ followers
  • YouTube: Currently 2 subscribers, would like it to get to 100+ subscribers

  • Produce 2 Videos with our Drone

For those of you who followed my journey earlier this year, you are well aware that I studied for about 6 months in order to receive my drone license. Now that I have my license I would love to put it to good use and create some awesome videos for the company. My goal for the year is to film and produce at least two videos with drone footage.  The hard part of this goal comes in the form of editing the footage and figuring out what type of video to create, while the filming aspect should be fun. In reality, I hope that I am able to produce more than two videos with drone footage.

  • Start a Certification Program

It hasn’t even been a full year since I graduated with my bachelor’s degree, but for whatever reason, I feel ready to start taking more classes. This time my classes would be more job-focused as I am looking at either Web Development/Design Certificate courses, or SEO/Digital Media Certification courses.  My goal is only to start a certification program, as some of the ones I have looked at can take a year or longer to complete. I never thought that I would be so eager to go back to school, but this is a goal I am looking forward to.

  • Launch Our Podcast

My last big goal in terms of marketing this year comes in the form of launching a podcast. While I was working on getting this blog up and running I had the perfect podcast idea pop into my head, “Not a Roofers Podcast”. I wrote the idea down and moved on with my work on the blog thinking that it would be a while until I was ready to work on a podcast, but little did I know that the podcast idea would receive so much support from those that I shared the idea with. So, for the last month and a half, I have been working with Charity (the controller of the company) to start producing a podcast. We will be launching “Not a Roofers Podcast” on February 1st!

Head over to our Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn to help us decide on our podcast art, as well as find out more about what the podcast is about.

I truly believe that while last year was the best year for Roof Medics so far, this year will be even better. Now that you know what our goals are, please keep us accountable as well as being our cheerleader. Without your support, our company would not be where it is today.
I do have a few requests for you.

  1. Please share our blog. Share it with a friend, on Facebook, Linked In, or Instagram. We want to have as many people as possible keeping us accountable to our goals, as well as cheering us on this year.
  2. Comment what your goals are this year. As much as we want you to be witness to us this year, we would love to support you on your goals.
  3. Let us know what you think about the blog, and if there is anything you would like to see/know about. My goal for this blog is to be a place of understanding and learning. I would like every reader to come away either learning about our company or understanding what we are going through.

For now, I look forward to all that 2021 has to offer!
